Largely protected from development, Menorca is not your typical package holiday resort. The island's small towns and villages offer a fairly secluded and relaxed holiday, even during the peak season. Menorca has many wonderful attractions, a real haven for nature-lovers. Menorca is a very verdant island, with pinewoods and wide, lush fields for the island's innumerable grazing cattle. Cycling tracks criss-cross the meadows and pastures, offering breathtaking views of the island and the bay front. The north coast of Menorca is rocky and rough, while the south coast abounds in sandy coves, with fine, golden sand, sheltered by cliffs and gorges.

Aside from the serene environ that this stunning island is famous for, it is also well-known for the strong breezes that nature brings. Hence, the island is also deemed as The Windy City . Tourists find the blustery weather irresistible, which is why they either return often or choose to stay for good in this island.

Menorca locals are generally jovial, affable and very accommodating. Although Spanish is the foremost language of the island for verbal communication, other European languages are commonly understood. Castilian Spanish is the official dialect in the area. However, the Basque, Catalan, and Galician are spoken in some regions. Like any other

other tourists in wandering off a foreign place, it is always helpful to bring along a good phrase book with Spanish translations.
A large percentage of Menorca locals are practicing the Roman Catholic religion. Still, many other major religions are being represented. Tourists are always welcome to visit the many churches in the island as long as the formal dress code is followed when going inside the parish premises.
Another distinct character of Menorca is its community ordinance restricting smoking in public places. Tourists ought to know that this unhealthy habit is prohibited in several buildings, public transport, and many prominent establishments. It is always the right of the non-smokers that prevail. However, there are still other places that accept smokers like the bars and pubs. The best thing to do in order to be safe from city sanctions is not to smoke unless you are in your private sanctuary. Besides, avoiding the habit is also beneficial to the health!
